People with mental illness and their families have from today of a new day center where they can receive comprehensive care.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor, Miguel Angel House, and President of the Autonomous Community, Alberto Garre, the Councillor for Social Welfare and Health, María del Carmen Pelegrin, and the Minister of Health and Policy Social, Catalina Lorenzo, who were accompanied by the director of the entity, Teresa Martinez Lacárcel.
The Day Centre and headquarters of the Association of Families and Persons with Mental Illness (AFES), which currently has 75 users daily, has been built on a plot that gave this purpose the city of Murcia.
The site, located in Santiago and Zaraíche, has an area of ​​247 square meters and its economic value amounts to almost 942,000 euros.
The Mayor pointed out the importance of providing all kinds of Murcia services socio character because "a city that is supportive care about providing the best care to those most in need and, in this case, people with some kind of mental illness and their families. "
The property has a height of five floors and basement, where the dining room and lounge is located.
On the ground floor is the reception and exhibit of works;
rooms psychology, social work, nursing and library in the first;
while in the remaining three the hall and computer room, workshops (weaving, pottery, autonomy, painting and binding) and motor rooms and gym are located.
Moreover, the City maintains a collaboration agreement with AFES for the development of a social educator specialized program that allows increasing the quality of life, autonomy and social management capacity center users, organizing activities for their integration and social reintegration.
With this program it is, ultimately, to seek independence levels to help achieve the most standardized possible life in the community, while also enhances personal resources and capabilities of the mentally ill.
