Exposure of fish such as bream to heavy metals affects the carbohydrate profile and immune function, as one of the conclusions of the doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Biology, University of Murcia Francisco Guardiola Abellán.
The study, which has been rated as outstanding cum laude, says the research has revealed that due to the carbohydrate profile exposure suffered minor variations and most enzyme activities were increased.
The thesis has analyzed the humoral defense mechanisms and physicochemical parameters in the skin mucus of five species of marine teleosts.
This research was led by professors from the University of Murcia Peñafiel Alberto Cuesta, José Meseguer Peñalver and María Ángeles Esteban Abad.
