The professors of the University of Murcia and Pedro Jesús Alcalá Francisco Hernandez, an article concerning the wage premium paid by exporters have achieved SERIEs Prize Spanish Economic Association.
The article according praised the jury for the award, goes beyond the widespread idea that exporters pay their workers more for the simple fact that it is an exporting firm.
These teachers have shown in their study that the exporter premium varies systematically depending on the destination of exports, with the largest of those companies supplying more distant markets.
The wage premium paid by exporters, defended the article, also increases with worker education.
The authors, from the Department of Foundations of Economic Analysis of the Murcia educational institution, state in their work that the presented model of international trade can explain relevant facts as companies can afford to export to more distant destinations only if their production is sufficient quality.
This requires more skilled within each educational group, which in turn translates into higher wages work.
