The delegation of Murcia Manos Unidas, in collaboration with the Department of Development Cooperation of the City of Murcia, held on Sunday October 19 its third edition of the Fun Run Manos Unidas to raise funds for the construction of a preschool in Ethiopia.
The race will start at 10.00, and travel, totally urban, is 10 miles.
The start and finish are located in Juan Carlos I. all 16 years older runners can participate.
Registration is $ 12 and can be performed in www.conchipmurcia.es.
The Councillor for Equality Policies and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, Murcia encouraged to participate with a united purpose while practicing sport.
The proceeds will go to Manos Unidas project to build a preschool education in Ethiopia, which will directly benefit 120 children and 600 people indirectly.
The investment required is 13,600 euros.
The center will be built in Abobo Parish Village 14, a town of 1,634 inhabitants, very secluded and difficult to access.
The main livelihood of the community is agriculture, livestock and fisheries.
Most live on less than one dollar a day and are illiterate.
Less than a third of the population has access to potable water and its life expectancy is 50 years.
Infant mortality is very high, and there are a large number of patients with malaria, meningitis, typhoid fever, AIDS and other diseases.
There are very few schools in the region and none in the people of the project;
or preschool or elementary, so that the likelihood of children to overcome illiteracy is very limited or nonexistent.
The project is to build a small pre-school, including teaching basic material with capacity for 120 children (60 boys and 60 girls) of the people, selected annually by parents and the local community.
The children are between 4 and 6 years old and live in extreme poverty.
It is the third year that Manos Unidas Murcia celebrates this charity run.
In previous years the money raised was used to build a school in Zambia and an agricultural training center in India.
