A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Murcia by María Susana Martinez Teruel studies the life and work of the bullfighter Ignacio Sanchez Mejias and writer (1891-1934), who starred in poetic compositions of authors like Rafael Alberti, Miguel Hernández, Gerardo Diego and Federico García Lorca.
This research, which has been rated as outstanding cum laude, also addresses Sanchez Mejias activity as a journalist, labor exerted in Union, Seville, in 1925, and Heraldo de Madrid, in 1929, and its role as a lecturer at various places in Spain and America.
The study investigates the other hand, the literary production on the path of Sanchez Mejias, in its facets bullfighter and man of letters, and his tragic death, which inspired García Lorca became one of the poems best known worldwide.
The new doctor has also used his literary work, with particular depth in his novel "The bitterness of victory" which delves into issues such as corruption in the bullfighting world and the troubles of the bullfighter.
The dissertation was directed by Professor of the University of Murcia Paco and Mariano tried by a tribunal chaired professor at the University of Sevilla Rogelio Reyes.
