The teachers of the Department of Zoology, University of Murcia, and Juan Antonio Collantes Francisco Delgado presented during the month of June a free application for mobile phones (Android and iPhone) designed for citizens to assist in the detection of the tiger mosquito.
The project in which the researchers of the University of Murcia involved is called "Catch the Tiger" and is led by the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CSIC).
The City of Cartagena, in the proceedings initiated to control the tiger mosquito in the town, is agent project collaborator.
The population with the application indicate the possible existence of settlements tiger mosquito anywhere in the Spanish geography and subsequently ratified that presence would be scientifically by experts.
The tiger mosquito, which can transmit tropical diseases such as dengue and yellow fever, have an aggressive bite can cause allergic reactions.
The problems caused by this exotic spice, and how to combat it, will be explained by Prof. Francisco Collantes in separate briefings which also will be released using the Tigatrapp application.
The sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 17, in the University Community Centre (Espinardo campus), at 11:00 am, and in the House Lyrics (Merced campus), at 19:00.
In addition, workshops on downloading and using the application in phones and tablets, to be held in the Lecture Hall 3.1a of the Merced on the 24th June from 10:00 to 14:00 and there will also be 16:30 to 20:00 hours.
The workshops will be taught by the XATRAC Environmental Partnership.
Information sessions and workshops will also be made in the city of Cartagena, on 18 and 25 June, respectively.
