Murcia City Council maintains a partnership with the service for Diversity and Volunteerism at the University of Murcia (UMU) Since the launch of the program in 2011, there have been a total of 28 activities to promote citizen participation in the knowledge and conservation of the natural environment
The Environmental Volunteering plays an important role in finding solutions to environmental issues, and created with the aim to promote citizen participation in the knowledge and conservation of the natural environment.
With this project, the city of Murcia has contributed, since 2011, in the sustainable development of natural areas of the municipality linking environmental heritage to cultural, historical and ethnographic collaboration with volunteers under Law 5/2004 October 22 Volunteer of the Region of Murcia.
From the Department of Environment, directed Adela Martinez-Cache, we have tried to thank once again the collaboration of volunteers who accept this challenge, participate and engage selflessly making this program a reality.
Environmental volunteer group of the Municipality of Murcia is currently formed by a total of 87 people aged between 8 and 60 years old.
The profile of these people is heterogeneous: students from different disciplines, working in different fields, unemployed etc.
The evolution of the number of participants in the program since its inception in the fall of 2011 has gone from 30 to 87 volunteers.
Since November 2011, the total number of activities performed was 28, which have been developed mainly in the environment of the Municipal Majal Blanco (Javalí New) Forest Park (Sangonera Green) and The Contraparada.
The themes of these activities in various aspects related to the care of the natural environment, recovery of assets, biodiversity conservation, etc..
In particular, there have been activities related to:
- Consolidation of the oven and was cast by grinding green building techniques.
- Design and installation of signaling partimoniales items of interest.
- Monitoring amphibian populations in the White Majal.
- Recalling the history of traditional activities in the White Majal.
- Tracking tracks and signs of wildlife in the Contraparada.
- Recovery of the Botanical Garden of Murcia
- Conservation of Special Areas of Conservation for Birds (SPAs)
- Banding birds.
- Sampling of freshwater.
- Sampling of mammals in the Segura River.
- Maintenance of the Segura river corridor.
- Propagation of native plants in the Municipal Nursery The Mayayo.
- Camouflage constructs in the White Majal.
At this stage, the Volunteer Program of the Municipality of Murcia has collaborated sporadically with others related to the protection and conservation of the natural environment of the municipality of Murcia as the Association of Southeast Naturalist (Anse), Association of Friends of Botanic Gardens entities of Murcia and the Neighborhood Association for Sustainable Development Garruchal (ADESGA).
The Volunteer Program of the Municipality of Murcia has an agreement of collaboration with the service for Diversity and Volunteerism at the University of Murcia (UMU) through which university students enrolled in the program may apply credits CRAU or LC.
