Murcia City Council, through the Department of Culture and MurciaEscultura program has recovered the sculpture that the city erected as a tribute to journalist and writer José Selgas, whose bust look again at its best in the garden of Floridablanca.
The piece is by the famous Murcia sculptor José Planes, who performed in 1922 for the missing Ruiz Hidalgo Park, where he was later moved to its present location.
It consists Selgas bust in bronze, on a large pedestal, designed by Rigal, having a garland of flowers in bronze and remembered the name of the author.
Restoration work of the work included cleaning the old patina, both as the pedestal bust, consolidation set on its base and repair minor damage, the result of the passage of time.
Selgas José Carrasco (Lorca, 1822 - Madrid, 1882) developed his career in Madrid, where he rose to become Academic Language in 1874 applauded his time writer, he was also founder of the famous satirical newspaper El Padre Cobos..
His poetry focused on the nature of praise, joy and family and peasant values.
