In order to raise awareness about the importance of road safety, the degree in Civil Engineering from the Catholic University of Murcia today hosted the fourth edition of the Road Safety Day, in which leading experts have shared different views with the university.
Manuel Campos, director of Development, Public Works and Planning, opened the event with Josefina Garcia, rector of the UCAM, and Pedro de los Santos, Dean of Civil Engineering;
and noted that in the region of Murcia has met the EU target of reducing 50% of deaths in road accidents, and even surpassed, "We have reduced by over 64%."
Thus, the Minister stressed the results obtained during the year 2013: "Eighteen deceased, was the best year of all history."
Also highlighted the work being developed in the region of Murcia and the impact it has on the results of accidents: "A good administrative law, criminal snap and action in building and public works will determine safety parameters that may influence direct way less accidents. "
Manuel Campos also thanked the UCAM involvement and emphasized the importance of these discussion forums. "I value very highly these days have to promote road safety and these forums allow taking into account the suggestions of the speakers, they will enrich this scenario. The ultimate goal is a 50% reduction of accidents in 2014-2020, "he said.
Conferences, round tables and mock
Throughout the day, the 4th Road Safety Day hosted by the Hall of UCAM offers university students the opportunity to attend various conferences and roundtables by authoritative voices such as Javier Iniesta, Councillor Traffic of the City of Murcia;
Maria Teresa Hoyos, Stop Accident;
José Antonio Guijarro, CEO of Roads in the Region of Murcia;
or Angel Luis Garcia, head of the Demarcation of State Highways in Murcia, among others.
Note the presence of Maria Segui, Director General of the DGT, which will close the day at 19:30 h on Friday.
In addition, to give out to students how working firefighters and local police in emergency situations by accident, took place on the campus of Los Jeronimos a drill with three cars involved and several wounded.
Agents of both bodies have shown the actions to be carried out to rescue them quickly and, above all, safe.
