The head of the National Transplant Organization of Spain, Rafael Matesanz, has analyzed the current system of donations
As pointed out by the director of the National Transplant Organization of Spain, Rafael Matesanz, currently only 4% of the donations come from traffic accidents, compared to 10% in cardiac arrest.
"20 years ago, when he began the ONT, traffic accidents accounted for about half of the donors, and if donations continue to increase, I think it's because we implement new forms of donation", said moments before teaching the closing conference of the Second National Congress of Nursing organized by the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia.
Matesanz has emphasized the importance of new forms of donation, and the donation in cardiac arrest, and noted that there are already past eleven communities with programs such donations.
In the case of the Region of Murcia ONT director has stated that its implementation will take place in the coming months;
and thread added that "Murcia recently has announced its inclusion in the National Donation Program Crusade, which is very important to increasing the grant, and it has recently allowed us to make a chain of six links, which part being a good example, can raise awareness of the need to donate a kidney to a family live. "
The success of Spain
On the reasons that make Spain is a world leader in transplantation, Rafael Matesanz has said that can not be attributed to a single cause, and has proven to be one of the attributes, the National Health System.
"Having a system that covers the entire population and that really allows transplanting without discrimination."
Secondly he highlighted that "Spanish is extremely generous when things really ask in a reasonable way. And I think in this case, how to ask for organ donation is very reasonable and is perfectly structured for professionals" .
And finally pointed out as another reason for his leadership the organization system, "having the best trained professionals in the appropriate time and in the right place."
Nursing & transplants
In relation to that developed by nurses working in this field, Rafael Matesanz has argued that this is essential, and has highlighted its important role in all stages of transplantation.
