The City of Murcia and Water create a flat fee of 5 € for families without resources (15/05/2014)

Miguel Albaladejo and Jose Angel House this morning presented the operation of this social background, provided 300,000 euros, which provides an allocation of 110 liters per capita per day free of payment.

Since its inception in 2012 budget for the poorest households were processed 3,000 requests amounting to 650,000 euros.

In addition to this fund, reclaimed water rates last year benefited 5,400 pensioners and large families remain.

The grant of water consumption is part of the driven or coordinated by the City to help the most vulnerable people initiatives.

The poorest households have access this year to a flat fee to meet the cost from the consumption of water.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, and the CEO of Aguas de Murcia, José Albaladejo, presented this morning the operation of this system that caters to people in straitened economic circumstances, which can not cope with the amount of fertilizer consumption water.

The fund, worth 300,000 euros, allows families to have 110 liters per capita per day and payment exempt satisfy only a flat fee of 5 € per month.

This system, pioneer in Spain guarantees the minimum supply house depending on the number of people who make up the family unit.

The endowment is above the subsistence level recommended by international organizations for the daily supply.

Under this heading may be made against the debt for overdue water bills.

The City Council and Aguas de Murcia launched this social background in 2012 and since then has handled 2,937 requests amounting to 650,000 euros.

This social background compliments the set bonuses for water consumption by pensioners and large families, of which this year will benefit 5,399 customers, of which 1,878 are pensioners are 3,004 households with 3 children, 337 with 4 children, 109 with 5 children 6 children 33 and 38 with 6 children.

The requirements to be met by families to benefit from this initiative are:

- Prove financial need and have been a recipient of financial benefits;

or such benefits have been processed and reported favorably by the Social Services of the City of Murcia in the past two years.

- Evidence the number of members that make up the family unit by registration certificate or certificate of Social Services.

- To hold an individual contract for the supply of potable water for domestic supply of usual residence with Aguas de Murcia.

- Only this application will help in those contracts where the service to housing constitutes habitual residence is provided.

- Regarding cancellation of previous receipts to the application of this tariff provides that this debt cancellation can be made only once in 2014.

Moreover, 13 projects have attended the V edition of the awards "Aguas de Murcia Solidarity", worth 10,000 euros, whose purpose is to distinguish initiatives to facilitate access to essential goods and services for life, as is the availability of potable water and sanitation services in countries of the developing world.

An essential way to contribute to the reduction of poverty and enjoy a minimum level of health is to have guaranteed access to potable water and sanitation systems.

The 13 projects were presented by New Roads, Alliance for Solidarity, FADE, Humanism and Democracy Foundation, Manos Unidas, Karit, Solidarity for Peace, Cooperation, Community Development Institute idc, UNESCO Centre of Murcia, Dasic Foundation Board of cooperation for peace and Vicente Ferrer Foundation.

The duty of these actions are in Dominican Republic, Ghana, El Salvador, Cameroon, Togo, Senegal, Ivory Coast and India.
