The city of Murcia has been chosen as one of the first nine European cities, along with Birmingham, Bologna, Bristol, Linkoping, Manchester, Nuremberg, Stockholm and Vienna, to be visited within the NICE project, as an example of successful performances conducted jointly in new technologies and energy efficiency by cities.
The NICE Network for Energy Efficiency Smart Cities project provides support to cities to meet commitments as provided by the Digital Green (Green Digital Charter) Charter.
This accession commits cities to work together in the promotion of ICTs and energy efficiency, to develop five pilot actions in 5 years, 30% and reduce the carbon footprint generated directly by ICT in 10 years.
The NICE project organizes knowledge sharing and training, within which presents the catalog trips on "Digital-Green" performances, and has selected the City of Murcia as an example of good practice as SmartCity showing their projects in various areas such as Energy, Transportation, Building & Connectivity.
Field trips include a visit from one to three days, the host city chosen, during which visitors are shown the green digital measurements that the host is undertaking to meet its commitments to the Green Digital Charter .
Are knowledge transfer schemes offering visitors to interact with key local actors and see how projects are implemented in reality.
Murcia City participates in this project by GER, your Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change under the Department of Environment.
In addition, GER is leader of EnerAgen Smartcities (Spanish Association of Agencies Energy Management) project and leads the Energy Group RECI (Spanish Network of Smart Cities), whose area of ​​study focuses on Smart Grid (Intelligent Networks ), Smart Metering (Smart Metering) Smart Buildings (Intelligent Building), Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and mainstreaming in energy savings.
The Smartcities or "smart cities" represent the concept of cities of the future.
In essence, are those able to use the data it has on their daily functioning, using Information Technology and Communication (ICT) to generate new information that could improve their management, in order to provide it with an infrastructure that ensure sustainable development, greater resource efficiency and increased quality of life of its citizens.
