The researcher of Physical Chemistry, University of Murcia Jose Pedro Ceron Carrasco stars on the cover of the May issue of the Journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a work in applying electric fields to eliminate cancer cells without harming harmful the rest.
The objective of the research, developed in collaboration with teachers Alberto Requena, Jose Zuniga and Javier Cerezo, is mutated in a cancer cell selectively based on the new technique of electrochemotherapy.
This technique, very recent development phase uses two electrical pulses, the first open a pore in the cell membrane to allow entry of the antitumor agent, and the second DNA strand breaks responsible tumor.
The novelty is Cerón study has achieved the necessary process parameters to apply to living tissue, and then, if successful, using it in human beings.
This is achieved by theoretical simulations of chemical processes behind DNA mutations.
It is the fourth time that this research work appears on the cover of this prestigious journal.
