Councillor of Culture, Rafael Gomez, attended the events organized by the City of Head of the Valley (Cáceres) on the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of José María Muñoz and Bass Menguíbar, nicknamed Hero of Charity for their humanitarian work in floods in 1879-Santa Teresa flood-affected Murcia, Alicante and Almeria.
José María Muñoz partitioned from his personal fortune over two million reales that allowed hundreds of families in the garden of Murcia survive and rebuild their homes after the tragedy.
In recognition of his philanthropy Murcia adopted son named him and raised a bronze statue, which today remains at the end of the Malecon.
City Council and Head of the Valley Cultural Association Trejo Pedro Plasencia have organized various events to commemorate those who have attended these days and mayors of all delegations favored by Muñoz Levantine populations.
In addition, a new play about the philanthropist entitled "José María Muñoz, Hero of Charity," written by the chronicler and historian Fernando Caceres Flores del Manzano also presented.
