Juan María Vázquez and José Orihuela will attend the second round of the elections for president of the University of Murcia
The candidacy headed by Professor of Medicine and Animal Surgery Juan María Vázquez Rojas was the most voted president in elections held at the University of Murcia.
Professor Vazquez earned the 36'62% of the vote, followed by Professor José Orihuela Calatayud, Professor of Mathematics, which has earned the 26'08%.
The candidate Francisco de Asís Martínez Ortiz, Professor of Physical Chemistry, and Jose Maria Martinez Selva, Professor of Psychobiology, were made with the 22'34% and 14'96% of the vote, respectively.
By not having the absolute majority any candidate, there will be a runoff on April 9, Wednesday, in which only concur Juan María Vázquez and José Orihuela, the two candidates most voted.
The Rector and the University Senate are elected by weighted universal suffrage, in which the vote of the professors and associate professors amounts to 51%, the rest of teaching and research staff 14%, students account for 25% and management staff and services 10%.
The electoral roll has surpassed 36,000.
