The candidacy headed by Professor of Medicine and Animal Surgery Juan María Vázquez Rojas has been the most votes in elections for president held today at the University of Murcia.
A lack of screening the table Arrixaca Teaching Pavilion, Vazquez has obtained 35% of the vote, followed by Professor José Orihuela Calatayud, Professor of Mathematics has achieved 26%.
The candidate Francisco de Asís Martínez Ortiz, Professor of Physical Chemistry, and Jose Maria Martinez Selva, Professor of Psychobiology, were 22% and 15% of the vote, respectively.
Having not produced an absolute majority of any candidate, there will be a runoff on April 9, Wednesday, in which only concur Juan María Vázquez and José Orihuela, the two most voted candidates.
The Rector and the University Senate are elected by weighted universal suffrage, in which the vote of the professors and associate professors amounts to 51%, the rest of teaching and research staff 14%, students account for 25% and management staff and services 10%.
The electoral roll has surpassed 36,000.
