Mireia Belmonte, swimmer and student of Advertising and Public Relations from the Catholic University of Murcia, was one of the awards at the 34th National Sports Gala, organized by the Spanish Association of Sports Newspapers (AEPD), which this year took place in Santander .
The athlete, triple gold medalist at the last World Swimming Championships, received his award from the president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza.
"Thanks to the AEPD for the prize, thanks to Teledeporte to cover minority sports like swimming and thanks to the UCAM and its Chairman for being so supportive over the past year," said Mireia, and on stage, after receiving his award.
Other recognized athletes also were winners at the National Sports Gala were Ruth Beitia, Ona Carbonell, 'Itching' Rodriguez, Rafael Nadal and Diego Pablo Simeone, although the latter two were unable to attend.
He was also given an award posthumously to the late national exseleccionador, Luis Aragonés.
The gala, which had to be delayed for two hours due to the storm that hit Santander, was broadcast live on Teledeporte.
