It is the adaptation of the poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge very romantic chronicles the adventures of an old sailor who, as punishment for killing the albatross came to save his ship, is bound to wander the icy waters of the Arctic and sing your penance.
The show offers a splendid and gloomy daydream, by staging a virtuoso Mark Holthusen video that offers a particularly rich visual universe, a kind of homage to Elizabethan drama, in which the tricks and gear are intentionally apparent.
Being the subject of a cult in London since its inception in 1989, this trio cultivates unexpected elegance, humor Soho underworld and its exceptional emotive singer Martyn Jacques: characters seem taken out of a music-hall beat up in a world of their own.
Mark Holthusen videos, which was inspired by the famous engravings of Gustave Doré, van tune with the three artists create an imaginary world and unusual about these surreal songs, performed by Martyn Jacques with his voice haute-contre exceptional percussionist Mike Pickering and bassist Adrian Stout serious.
HISTORY
After killing the albatross that had just saved his crew from the deadly waters of the South Pole, the old sailor suffering the vengeance of tenacious spirits that trigger their anger against the boat.
Death comes for his comrades and carried one after another:
"Water, water, everywhere / And all the boards did shrink
Water, water, everywhere / Nor any drop to drink "
until we finally understand that love God is to love His creatures:
"For the dear God loveth us / He made and loveth all»
As punishment, the Ancient Mariner is condemned to wander forever: their repentance will tell their story.
