A study, led by Professor of the University of Murcia Senena Carlini and researcher at the Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona, CSIC, has advanced the knowledge of the molecular mechanism by which certain proteins involved in the process of vesicle fusion in Cell.
Alterations in this transport vesicles are the cause of a large number of neurological diseases, immunological and even diabetes.
For this work, which has been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, PNAS, have used advanced techniques such as crystallography X-ray diffraction coupled to a system of free assembly and isothermal titration calorimetry .
The development of this knowledge in the near future will allow the rational design of drugs that can control the disorder in those cells that are involved in the studied proteins work.
