Dr. Brigida González Carrillero, family physician and primary care partner of the Municipal Assistance Team Gender Violence of the City of Murcia (EMAVI), has been awarded recognition "in Murcia Equality" with which the City Council, through the Department of Political Equality and Development Cooperation, wants to highlight individuals, groups or institutions that have distinguished themselves by promoting projects, activities or actions in order to promote gender equality, prevent violence against women and in support of victims who suffer.
The Mayor, Miguel Angel House, accompanied by Councilwoman Alicia Barquero, handed the award during the official ceremony commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which took place this morning at the Plenary Hall.
The event was also attended by other councilors of the Corporation and Deputy Maria Dolores Bolarín.
Brigida González Carrillero, Specialist in Family and Community Medicine, which currently holds its work in primary care and has previously worked in the Ministry of Health Promotion Programs Health in schools, and the launch of the first program information and prevention of AIDS.
The distinction given today by Mayor recognizes his work as a family physician in the prevention, detection and assistance to women victims of violence and particularly the medical care of women housed in shelters for women victims of violence gender of municipal management for 17 years.
Brigida Gonzalez attends medical care and preventive work to level following coined the definition of health by WHO in 1946 as a "state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease", so that serves its patients in a systemic way to understand that physical symptoms may be related to social or interpersonal problems.
This sensibility makes his relationship with women in situations of violence against women both to detect this situation and refer to specialized resources, and to meet and accompany women in their personal recovery process and away from a history of violence.
Fewer cases seen
The Municipal Assistance Team Violence against Women (EMAVI) Murcia City Council has made in the months of 2013 a total of 1,713 GBV interventions (consultations, phone calls, etc..) And has attended 281 cases , 203 of them with complaint of domestic violence and in most cases without complaint for violation of the restraining order (252) and for breach of the maintenance allowance (265).
In the same period of 2012 until 25-Nov, interventions were 1,378 and 303 cases of domestic violence were assisted.
67% of women treated (207) are Spanish, followed by Morocco (21 cases), Ecuador (16) and Bolivia (11).
As for the ages of the women requiring the service EMAVI, most were between 30 and 40 years (33%) and 27% between 40 and 50.
The 281 affected mothers totaled 555 children and 100 of them were mothers of two children.
Regarding the level of education, 44% have primary education, 31% secondary and 16% just have studies.
110 affected women are unemployed and do not charge any delivery and 110 cases reported physical and psychological abuse.
As for the assailants in 53% of cases the couple is in the 40% ex-partner and only 3% is the groom.
81% do not live with them.
Shelters
The EMAVI has two shelters, this year you have resided 6 women and 7 children and a floor-ward as housing resources.
The houses are currently occupied by three women and three children.
Benefiting from other women, two have come to a rental house, two have returned to her attacker and three are still in the house.
The EMAVI Team is composed of a coordinator, a legal adviser, a psychologist, three social educators and social worker and is responsible for the care of women affected by problems of domestic violence, foster care for women and their children, when situations arise risk, and outreach campaigns aimed at raising public awareness for the prevention and eradication of violence against women.
Works in coordination and collaboration with the Regional and National Network of attention in domestic violence.
