The Councillor for Traffic and Transport, Javier Iniesta, this morning the draft urban transport integration to the European partners MOBISEC, Mobility Initiatives European Sustainable communities, which is designed and led by the city of Murcia.
Also involved in this project the European cities of Varna (Bulgaria) and Oldham (United Kingdom).
The project has a total budget of 1,271,000 euros and is funded by 50% by the Directorate General for Transport of the European Commission.
The mayor presented the activities planned to increase the use of public transport by acting on intermodality.
This measure will allow travelers who live some distance from a bus stop, can be reached by bicycle, let stored in a locked bicycle parking with surveillance and security systems, and then make use of the public transport network.
Another initiative is aimed at improving traffic signaling several roundabouts of the city, in order to make drivers more aware of the vehicles, the presence of cyclists on the road, in order to reduce the speed and increase precautions.
The Department of Traffic and Transportation is working on the development of web tools that enable citizens to know the optimal routes between point of origin and destination, combining and integrating various bus and tram lines along with other modes of transport.
Also, the municipal presented during the meeting the progress of an innovative application of ICTs to municipal management.
The measure consists of an experience of eight months during which they crawled through a smartphone application, the routes taken by more than 250 volunteers daily bike, in order to optimize the signaling and traffic shaping on roads highly traveled by them.
