The November 12, 2011 was launched Environmental Volunteer Program of the Municipality of Murcia, a project under the slogan We Pineapple!, Promotes citizen participation to maintain and improve the protected areas with environmental awareness program social cultural character that has united groups, organizations, associations and people with common interests.
In these two years, 69 people have signed up to volunteer and have made 19 activities, focused primarily in the vicinity of Forest Park Municipal Majal Blanco and La Contraparada.
The main projects undertaken by volunteers in the Majal Blanco are the consolidation of the remains of an old mill and two ovens was plaster and outreach to the local population that inhabited the area through the project "Memory" based on interviews with older people who know the history of this environment.
The volunteer program also performs maintenance of biodiversity in the area with the aim that the volunteers know the nature and learn scientific concepts and simple techniques.
The recent recovery has allowed Contraparada in this environment also develop volunteer activities, raising awareness of the conservation of the ecosystem and maintaining the environmental values ​​of the area.
In Contraparada are activities such as sampling turtles and otters, bird banding, identification and recognition of mammal tracks and signs in the environment or planting and maintenance of vegetation.
The Environmental Volunteer Program of the Municipality of Murcia also collaborates with other organizations and associations that devote their efforts to promote voluntary action.
In this period it has collaborated with the Friends of the Botanical Garden of Murcia, who has done the planting and maintenance of flower beds dedicated to Mediterranean flora in the Malecon Garden, and the Southeastern Association of Naturalists (Anse) to improving the biodiversity of the Contraparada.
