Terra Natura Murcia celebrates the birth of three young Vietnamese pork albino (06/11/2013)

Albinism occurs not only in humans, and that in nature there are also cases with relative frequency of this genetic condition so unique.

Proof of this is that the animal park Terra Natura Murcia has just witnessed the birth in its facilities, for the first time in five baby pot bellied pigs (Sus scrofa domestica), of which three have been albino.

Parents, caregivers baptized with the name of Gusty and Lolo, reached the resort last February.

Their union has been fruitful and in just over six months have managed to have their first offspring.

Of the five little pigs who have had more than half have been albinos.

Albinism is a genetic recession may appear in any species and usually takes the form of congenital absence of pigmentation.

Hence these albino offspring have a whitish skin tone unlike his brothers, who share the same black hue than their parents.

At birth the pups weighed about 300 grams and measured just 20 centimeters in size.

After caregivers have undergone veterinary examination the young to check their health status has been determined that three of these Vietnamese pigs are females and two males.

The ratio of the offspring with their parents is cordial and remain grouped much of the time to keep warm and protect against a hypothetical threat.

From the third month of life begin the process of weaning, at which time the young start their independence phase and feed on their own.

Curiously, Vietnamese pigs live in Terra Natura Murcia belong to a variety of very small, so that when they reach adulthood only have two feet high, which is equivalent to about 40 inches around.
