More than a hundred young people complete their training to find a job in the qualification program conducted by the City (24/09/2013)

Mayor delivers diplomas to 108 students who have obtained their degree in 10 profiles, including vehicle maintenance, kitchen, or hairdressing trade.

Learn a trade or further education is the goal of initial vocational training program, designed for students aged 16 to 20 years who left formal education and are unemployed.

Since it was launched in 2008, nearly 800 students have participated in these courses, which were given 54 professional qualifications.

The program is conducted at the Centers for Training and Employment Initiatives of the City and the keys to success lie in creating a real working environment and time standards similar to those of a workplace.

The reality is that not all young people completing compulsory secondary education, which in no way means that do not require specific training to establish its inclusion in the workplace.

Therefore, the city of Murcia organizes or offers programs aimed at these young people, in order to educate them in an office in which to work or to continue studies in the different teachings.

This alternative, called Initial Vocational Training Program, has become the right tool for the 778 young people who have used it and have learned 54 profiles since its introduction in 2008.

The plan is aimed at young people between 16 and 20 years without professional qualifications and unemployed.

The Mayor, Miguel Angel House, presided this morning presented the diplomas to the 108 students who have completed the course -2012/2013-.

The event was also attended by the Councillor for Employment, Trade and Business, José María Tortosa, the Director General of Vocational and Specialised Education, Marta Lopez-Briones, and representatives of business organizations and companies who have contributed with the program.

They have won the title in ten trades: electrical engineering and communications facilities, welding and metal constructions, kitchen, hairdressing, beauty, business, plumbing, HVAC (2 groups) and vehicle maintenance (2 groups).

This plan makes it possible for young people to receive the necessary theoretical training in a trade and, in many cases, access to a first job, but they can also choose to pursue studies abandoned, especially in intermediate vocational training.

The cost of this year amounted to € 689,000, of which the Ministry of Education, Universities and Employment has provided € 400,000 and the city of Murcia, the remaining € 289,000.

A real working environment

The Vocational Training Program of the City of Murcia is developed in training centers and employment initiatives that the Department led by José María Tortosa has in Murcia and El Palmar.

The key to its success lies in creating a real working environment, with rules, schedules and safety measures shall be treated as a workplace.

The program provides training, personal protective equipment and collective, and costumes for all students, as well as transportation vouchers to those in need.

Students also participate in an internship module 150 workplaces hour-conducted in July-, and in which 92 companies have collaborated.

Of these, 34 have been joined this course and 58 have renewed their participation.

Thus, young people had their first experience in a real work setting.

As for the results of this course, note that enrolled 152 students of which 117 held internships in companies.

Finally, 108 students (71%) obtained the relevant certificate.

In addition, all participants in the program were enrolled in 2nd year Professional Qualification in a center of adult education in order to continue their studies and obtain the ESO, which is the ultimate goal of the program.

In terms of employment, 2 cooking students have been hired in the restaurants where they did practice.
