The Socialist Party calls for 'revolution' to turn the holidays into a tourist attraction for Murcia (29/08/2013)

Councilwoman Andrea Garries today has claimed a 'revolution' for the holidays in Murcia to become a premier tourist attraction, as it's seventh city of Spain.

Garries remember that year after year, the programs are virtually a photocopy, with little capacity for innovation that increasingly arouses interest among Murcia and tourists.

In addition, the PSOE councilor recalls that "the parties, both the Spring as September, are an opportunity to attract visitors to our city and should be a boost for tourism, hospitality and trade"

However, today, as they have been shown the Socialist Group, the hotel occupancy forecasts are well below other cities in our area who celebrate their festivals on similar dates.

He explains Garries, "reserves data in digital portal BOOKING indicate 90% to Albacete for the next week while in Murcia the figure is only 12%."

"These poor figures are the result of an unfortunate policy of promoting Murcia parties," the PSOE mayor.

"Today the program is not even on the Internet, or tourist offices. At the City Council website only thing we found on the Fair are photos councilor and that it is the same that manages both areas. Nor is there specific section on the website of the Department of Tourism, "criticizes Garries Andrea Zaragoza who notes that in the concerts of the festival of El Pilar known since July.

Councilwoman Andrea Garries recalls that the Socialist Group have presented to Parliament a proposal to undertake a study on the economic profitability of the parties and from their findings, address the changes necessary to ensure that every dollar you spend on holidays impacting economic benefit of the city.

Garries notes that the budget is 7,207,189 euros Celebrations, much more than other major items Employment, Health, Libraries, Housing, Trade and Tourism so requires the PP which look much we spend every euro.

Regarding the content of the show, Garries says you have to move towards greater participation and remember that even the poster is chosen by public competition, as in almost all cities of Spain.

In addition, the PSOE Councillor highlights that no PP capacity for innovation is leading to gradual privatization because private employers are raising initiatives which are then included in the general program such as the Wine and Food Fair.

Finally, Garries claims that "Fair is marginalizing the districts of Murcia and commitment to decentralize the holidays, as we have proposed many times."

"Bringing our people activities, such as parades of Moors and Christians, would ensure that the whole town gets involved in their parties," concluded the socialist mayor.
