Murcia City Council continues with the neighborhood rehabilitation project Espinardo Holy Spirit, which is part of the Urban Plan.
This project, in its strategic line called "Urban Environmental Improvement and Waste Reduction and Treatment," includes such as 6, "Improving the living conditions of the environment. Remodeling spaces and improvement of environmental quality" which exhibits the expansion of the Plaza de la Constitution, creating an urban plaza with greenery and children's play area, and improving existing gardens equipping playgrounds and other street furniture.
To complement this, and in order to achieve the comprehensive regeneration of the space, the project also includes the rehabilitation of the facades of the houses that overlook the square and are badly damaged, giving a treatment which incorporates the square as an aesthetic uniform, thus reinforcing the concept of "The square at the center of urban regeneration".
Also, as an integrator in the local cultural roots, pre-installation is planned to place a work of sculptor José Planes Penalver, whose purchase will be made in the context of other actions outside of this project works.
Expected placement in a source integrated into a pedestal formed by four helices linked fro where four streams.
The light source that will incorporate more colorful at night, and will provide games of light and water.
The development of the project design was conducted through a participatory process:
Under the name of "Building a place to live" a public consultation was carried out for the realization of participatory design of the new Constitution Square, located in the heart of the neighborhood. During the months of December 2010 and March 2011 was conducted a set of activities to facilitate the people of the neighborhood provide feedback through different forms of expression.
The objective of this action was
Get respond in the best way possible to the needs of the people living on the urban space that intervenes, but also their aspirations.
And while
be transparent in how public money is spent and on what will be the end result in functional and aesthetic areas.
Development of the activity.
They conducted a brainstorming, whereby participants felt and reflected on the uses of the square and the aesthetics of the square.
We also carried out activities such as:
- Artistic Expression: Painting Workshop: "The dream space", Workshop stories: "Stories of the square;" Musical Improvisation: "The song of the square."
- Participatory Journalism: Interview with citizens who did not attend the consultation activities.
- Development of a blog as a container for all the consultation activities throughout the process.
- Feature-video workshop for youth filmed the process.
- Two briefings on topics of interest related to the square: The work of sculptor José Plans Penalver and places of the world, to give a broader view of the design and use of other places.
Regarding design, we carried out the realization of the sketch-proposal by the architect José Carlos Miquel and submission to the working group in open session, leaving open a deadline for feedback on the sketch.
