900 athletes and thousands of people will travel to the city
Again Murcia is the capital of the sport with two major events to be held in the city in late August.
This is the Spain Cycling Championships Junior Men and Women and Masters, to be held from 23 to 25 August; party and Spanish Basketball Team that faces the selection of Britain, on August 28 .
Councillor for Sport, Youth and Tourism, Miguel Cascales, explained that this type of event has great impact on both the hotel industry and in restaurants and trade, as it is estimated that among athletes, supporters and fans came to our city 2,500 individuals making more than 3,500 overnight stays at our hotels during the three days of the championship cycling and game day Spain, with its consequent restoration spending.
The celebration of these two great events will enable those days, the city is generated a direct economic impact of more than 1,000,000 euros.
Cycling Championships will be a date of great importance which will gather more than 800 athletes from 18 to 69, from across Spain.
The competitions are organized by the Spanish Cycling Federation and Cycling Federation of the Region of Murcia, with the support of the Sports Department of the City of Murcia.
The route of the Spanish Ñ Basketball has one more year with Murcia to host their games.
The Spanish, double European champions and Olympic runners will face Great Britain in the party that will be held on August 28 at the Palace of Sports, at 21.00.
It is a preparatory meeting for the Eurobasket 2013, to be held in Slovenia from 4 to September 22.
The game will be televised nationally.
Cascales, who was accompanied by the President of the Cycling Federation of the Region of Murcia, José López Tortosa, and the President of the Basketball Federation of the Region of Murcia, Juan Carlos Hernandez, highlighted the importance of these two events that flock to the city to more than 900 athletes.
Likewise, the party of Spanish Basketball Team bring together about 8,000 spectators in the Sports Palace, of which 35% are from neighboring provinces (Alicante, Albacete and Almería).
The mayor has indicated that "Murcia is a prize that Spanish Basketball Federation choose our city, of all cities wishing to host a round of the selection", and pointed out that Murcia is a talisman for the Spanish team and the Palace Sports is home to more people moving.
The Department of Sport, Youth and Tourism Murcia City Council is committed to holding major sporting events for the quality of the facilities of the town and the economic impact to the city involved.
This type of competition, in a month like August, reactive activity of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops of our city.
