Conference 'Evangelism UCAM Indonesia and Indonesia' (18/06/2013)

Professor of Law at the Catholic University of Atma Jaya Indonesia, Nikolas Simanjuntak, gave a lecture on Catholicism in China

The Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) hosted this evening a lecture entitled 'UCAM in Indonesia and Evangelism in Indonesia', by Nikolas Simanjuntak lawyer, professor of law at the Catholic University of Atma Jaya Indonesia, legal consultant Indonesian Parliament and UCAM institutional representative in the country.

The rapporteur has lectured on the situation of Catholicism in Indonesia, where the majority religion is Islam.

During his address, Nicholas Simanjuntak explained Indonesia's constitution recognizes five religions, Catholicism being the third largest.

"Catholics in Indonesia have much work to do in terms of evangelization of the country," said the speaker.

He highlighted that "the religious wars that have occurred in the history of Europe are alien to Indonesia" since there is given "interreligious dialogue and the different religions live in peace."

For his part, the Vice Chancellor of International Relations and Communication UCAM Paul Blesa, responsible for introducing the speaker and introduce the theme of the conference, explained the relationship that links the University with Indonesia.

The UCAM landed in China two years ago, particularly in Jakarta, a city of 20 million inhabitants.

Blesa Paul explained that the objective of the University is to establish "a foundation that will develop three tasks": create a Spanish school, have a software development unit and, little by little, to implementing master's and doctoral programs and facilitate the arrival of the UCAM Indonesian students.
