New collapse in the historical heritage of the Huerta de Murcia (14/06/2013)

HUERMUR claim that almost all of the cultural heritage of the Huerta de Murcia is in a serious condition and if there is no minimum investment to prevent further deterioration in the coming years it will all be a wreck.

Yesterday afternoon HUERMUR received a call from Puebla de Soto warning that much of the mill cover this hamlet had fallen inside and on the machinery, and that firefighters and police at the scene cordoned off the area.

This water mill, built on the canal most of Alquibla or Barriers, is cited as the Abbots and mill formerly belonging to the church, although it was built by Don Pedro de Soto in 1476 possibly on a former mill Hispano.

At first it was a flour mill, later going to grind pepper, and now lies abandoned, so abandoned that is not even listed or protected despite being an important part of the history of Puebla de Soto.

A few years ago the Ministry of Culture published a grants primarily focused on restoring hydraulic heritage, for which HUERMUR presented the consolidation and enhancement of the remains of the mill Funes and the city of Murcia A draft Puebla mill rehabilitation of Soto.

Finally annulled these subsidies culture and the city failed to apply for protection of this building.

The party has collapsed without value, but, as cover, in no time the rest of the building will be severely affected, to which must be added the internal damage caused by the collapse and that some walls are cracked and threatening to collapse.

According Huermur what happened in the mill Puebla de Soto is another example of the state in which there is the patrimony of the Huerta de Murcia, and if nothing is done, before long we will be losing a building after another.

As an example cite some city-owned buildings and in serious condition: the mill of love in the Albatalía, Espinardo Falcon Tower, the Batan in Zarandona mill or bridge the Batteries in Sewell.

Keep in mind that in addition to the damage to the cultural heritage, the lack of adequate preservation of these buildings can potentially cause a serious accident to passersby.

In this situation, HUERMUR has raised a minimum investment and urgent in order to prevent further deterioration of these buildings, rehabilitating them and then go through the creation of a school workshop for the restoration of heritage, as has been done in other cities.

In this way reduces costs and rehabilitation is given a social and training by hiring unemployed people.
