Europe Day is celebrated on May 9 recalling the origins of the EU on May 9, 1950, when the French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, one of the fathers of the European Union, made his famous 'Schuman Declaration' in which it requested to France, Germany and other European countries were united to create a pool of the production of coal and steel, through a new European organization.
This organization is materialized a year later, in 1951, by the Treaty of Paris, which created the European Community of Coal and Steel Community (ECSC).
This day is celebrated in all 27 Member States of the European Union with hundreds of activities to bring Europe closer to the citizens.
