Angeles Espinosa shows in his career sculptural Almudí through 23 pieces (29/05/2013)

The Palace Arts Center Almudí surprises with a new exhibition in this case is now entering the world of sculpture.

A world in which the figures and shapes take on the leading role of the artist's hands Angeles Espinosa.

Under the title "Angels Espinosa. On the other side," the Palace Arts Center welcomes Almudí from a sample consisting of a total of 23 sculptures made of different sizes and at different stages of his life, and a 4-pieces that have been selected by the curator of the exhibition, Martin Paez, who has known very well reflect and collect the trajectory of the path in the world of sculpture by Ángeles Espinosa.

The exhibition begins with a group of five sculptures ranging from the beginnings in the '70s to the '80s.

They are solid pieces, carved in wood, artificial stone and modeled based on a figuration interpreted, stealing part of reality to make it more personal.

They are sculptural works made with classic techniques within this conception of thought (classical sculpture), intended to last over time, be eternal.

In a second group of five other pieces (bullfighter, manola, friend ...), made in the 90s, the concept of volume changes, as in the history of twentieth-century sculpture, starts to empty the volume part its mass, are lines in the space with colored cement strokes and with parts of its volume screens modeling glazes containing blue, through the resin.

The "empty" becomes part of the work and its expression, as the poet Rilke in his essay on Rodin.

Another four pieces (African, hopelessness, giralunas), go a step further in that direction, staying alone on the line, in the drawing in space, no longer needed to convey what they want to say.

In the nine following parts (dancing and baobabs) found that describes the line drawing becomes a cut on a corten steel plate, laser sectioned.

They are more contemporary materials and techniques.

In them, the game is over flat space.

They are drawn shapes in steel, break your frame, with the dimension that constrains corset mode and finding the third dimension, bend, rotate on themselves harder to express what they want to convey, leaving visible in some cases the marking trace or vacuum source, referring to another time and another place.

And finally a 4-piece, made of metal mesh, which has no title, that may be all or nothing, this is part of its essence.

Large volumes are not heavy, they do not invade the space, become space, recalling the metaphysical thoughts of our international sculptor Oteiza on the employment and unemployment of space, with its metaphysical boxes.

These parts are adapted to the environment, play with it and generate forms that turning on themselves, are changing, endless, fleeting, lasting only a moment, barely staying in the retina.

The title of the exhibition "Beyond" has a direct meaning, throwing a look at the exhibits, I find that are transparent, translucent, who move in space, which are transformed ... You can see through them what there on the other side.

The screens that blend into the space, with the reality around them, eventually become other forms that cast shadows that generate new forms in turn.
