The University of Murcia has reached 5,000 doctoral theses, after the presentation at the Faculty of Biology by Mahmoud Magdy Abdallah Awad study "Genetic variability in mosses and its relation to climate change adaptation processes in Mediterranean environments", Franziscus led by Olaf Werner and Rosa Maria Ros Espin.
The first doctoral thesis was read at the University of Murcia in 1955, after the Royal Decree of June 25, 1954 granted to this educational institution the power to grant the degree of Doctor, as previously doctoral theses are defended at the Central University Complutense of Madrid today.
It was the work of José López Berenguer, entitled "The collision of rights", which was defended at the Faculty of Law on October 20, 1955.
Then came the Carlos Martínez Abarca-Ruiz Funes ("Collaboration particular the crisis of classical notion of public service"), also of the School of Law, and Pascual Salmerón Salmerón, "Study oscilopolarográfico of vitamins"), the first of the Faculty of Sciences.
The first thesis of the Faculty of Arts was read in 1956.
Over the years the number of doctoral thesis has been increasing, the proof is presented only 224 in 2012.
Currently, in the University Library 5,000 theses are kept, reflecting the academic and research activities of the University of Murcia.
