The municipal group of IU-Greens in the city of Murcia has submitted a motion to the full tomorrow requesting that the Department of Social Affairs supermarkets promote agreements with the municipality for the use and distribution of food we are about to expire.
The initiative also proposes the establishment of a commission to draft a code of good practice, in which stakeholders collaborate in relation to the distribution of surplus food to reduce that are fit for consumption but not for marketing.
It also proposes the establishment of mechanisms for the surpluses of these products are delivered to social organizations and the development of a report on the practices of the department stores in the destruction of food before they expire.
Councilman left formation, José Ignacio Tornel, has criticized some large supermarkets throw staples days before its expiration date while the rate of poverty and social exclusion increase in the Murcia region by economic crisis.
He recalled that ensure food and health of the population is "the first constitutional obligation" of the government, why has accorded priority to the start of a legislative process on this matter at the national level.
