The Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) has welcomed the election of the far-Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio Archbishop of Buenos Aires (Argentina) - as the new Pope, who occupy the Chair of St. Peter under the name of Francis I.
The UCAM has commemorated this milestone with a peal of bells.
The university president, José Luis Mendoza, expressed his joy at the election of the new Pope has been able to meet and with whom he could exchange views during the plenary of the Pontifical Council for the Family.
"He's a great preacher, a great pastor, and very close to the people," he asserted UCAM president.
In addition, the president stressed the surprise UCAM has received to know the name of His Holiness Francis I, and highlighted the fact that this is the first Hispanic and Jesuit Pope.
