The full City Council has approved a joint motion of PP and UPyD - with the abstention of PSOE and IU-on March 8, International Women's Day.
The Councillor for Equality Policies and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, regretted that PSOE and IU have not joined this joint motion, which is an official statement, and have wanted to politicize an issue as is the support of women and equality between men and women.
The text of the motion passed is as follows:
"Today, March 8, commemorating the United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace.
A day for reflection on the situation of women.
One day, after a century of its introduction, it is still necessary mark.
In recent years, Western societies have successfully traveled much of the way towards equality between women and men, but still, to this day, we have an important stretch of the same.
It is therefore our duty to keep working and striving to achieve full and effective equality, and to end the bitter face of inequality: gender violence.
Equality between men and women than Concepción Arenal, Clara Campoamor and Victoria Kent was almost a utopia, it is at our fingertips through the efforts and the work we've put in and all the rights of women.
From the city of Murcia, we reaffirm this commitment and develop actions that move each year decreases the gap between formal equality and real, through different actions within its own municipal incumbent leadership as an institution to the citizens, specifying daily goals promote gender equality.
Actions, from our municipal policy, articulated around the following goals and objectives:
- Maintenance and repair of the problem of gender violence.
- Promoting the active participation of women in decision-making in the public and private sphere, and promoting women's associations.
- Information and advice to all people and women in particular, of the measures and actions to promote equality.
The commitment of the City of Murcia with the women of our municipality primary aim in the Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men.
This Plan, is defended as a vital instrument in which materialize the objectives, priorities and measures of performance, and the coordination of all services and municipal areas, to eliminate gender discrimination and promote equality between men and women in our municipality.
Today, March 8, 2013, declare and reaffirm the commitment of the City of Murcia in the following aspects, through the adoption of the following motion:
- Continue developing and defending actions that women's access to employment, equal pay, with the same quality, as well as the necessary tools that allow accurate and reconcile work, family and personal, thus giving an opportunity, regardless of gender, professional development.
- Insisting on the need to promote the values ​​of respect and equality, from education / Child, youth, advertising and media, without distinction of gender, as well as awareness and training on equality and prevention of gender violence.
- Include value and make visible the gender mainstreaming in the actions carried out by the various departments and municipal areas.
- Continue to support, care and advice to women victims of domestic violence and their children.
- Support policies that represent and empower women, because only then will get the most just and sustainable society to which we aspire.
To express our commitment to continue advancing to overcome discrimination and achieve real equality between women and men, development and peace. "
