The neighboring district of Espinardo Holy Spirit will enjoy the Constitution Square completely renovated.
This is an Urban Initiative (Urban Plan), EU-funded ERDF, which has had the participation of the residents in the design of the new space.
The aim is that the square will become the heart of the neighborhood.
The design of the square was carried out by counting the views of the neighbors, to meet the needs of people living in the area and consider their wishes.
This has worked a multidisciplinary team of professionals of the City of Murcia, mediators, volunteers, external observers and a coordinator and with the input and participation of children, youth and adults in the neighborhood of the Holy Spirit Espinardo.
The consultation phase began in December 2010 with a brainstorming among participants, in order to diagnose the functionality of the space and exploit the potential of the new space to create.
Among other activities, organized a painting workshop, story workshop, musical improvisation, video workshop and interviews with locals-made-for neighborhood youth to voice their opinions.
Also held briefings on the work of sculptor José Plans and plazas in the world.
In the design phase of the square has been taken into account the implementation of a space as a meeting place and meeting for youth and children's play, as well as an area for seniors, bicycle parking, WiFi, etc.
The remodeling of the square will be made with the total renovation of the pavement, placement of new trees and shady areas where there currently, treatment of the facades of the houses in the environment, so they are more in line with the new image; installation of playground, installation of equipment for older gerontogimnasia, green screens, sculptures, fountains, special system for collection and recycling of water to place a drip irrigation system, among other things.
The new facility will comply with all accessibility standards.
The City Council approved the project and contract documents for procurement of works, with an investment of 900,000 euros and a lead time of six months.
