Murcia capital recorded lower birth rate and higher average age of the mothers that municipalities in the metropolitan area (11/01/2013)

The doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Murcia by Gala Isabel Cano Fuentes has reflected a lower birth rate and higher average maternal age in the city of Murcia with respect to their districts and municipalities in the metropolitan area.

The study analyzed the evolution over the last two decades of demographic and housing in the metropolitan area of ​​Murcia, including in it the regional capital, Sewer, Alguazas, Archena, Beniel, Ceutí, Lorquí, Molina de Segura, Santomera and Cotillas Towers.

Both in the districts of the capital (1st metropolitan area), and in the nine remaining municipalities (2nd crown) that make up this area, the author has seen more children and younger ages, and a marriage rates more stable and high, also at earlier ages, which in the central municipality.

In regard to housing, in 2007 (latest year housing boom) the greatest increases in housing permits new construction occurred in the municipalities of the 2nd crown, which quintupled visas issued in 1991.

The thesis, which was supervised by professors Juan Hernandez Franco and Juan Ortin Garcia, also makes a national contextualization, concluding that families in the region of Murcia has a more traditional than in the rest of Spain.

The families of the region tend to have more children, at younger ages and in greater measure, within marriage, this being mostly Catholic character.
