Murcia is currently owned by 6 and 4 Spanish international partnerships in the area of ​​environment and sustainable mobility.
The Mayor spoke about "Leadership of cities" at the Meeting of the Congress of Local Environment held today in Madrid.
The work of cities encourages greater coordination of activities, avoid duplication and save costs.
These are three of the overall benefits of collaboration between municipalities and as stated by the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, who spoke today in Madrid at the 6th Meeting Local National Congress of the Environment (CONAMA), in who spoke on "Leadership of global cities and networking".
This way of working helps share problems and solutions and learn from the decisions of other locations in addition to building bridges of understanding and ability to reach agreements.
The mayor has defended this formula of local policy coordination especially in the area of ​​environment, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and the fight against climate change.
Only in this area, the city of Murcia belongs to six networks and European and international organizations:
- European Association EUROCITIES: Consisting of 130 cities around thirty European countries, is dedicated to giving greater weight to municipal affairs in the European Union context.
The City of Murcia chaired the Eurocities Mobility Forum between 2008 and 2010 and the Working Group Energy & Efficiency between 2010-2012.
It was also the first time he held that office a mayor in Southern Europe, and thus the first time that a Mayor of Spain presided over this forum.
- Work in Red by the Covenant of Mayors: International Cooperation Programs SURE: with Morocco.
Its main purpose is to improve energy efficiency in the urban environment.
Nearly 300 cities across Europe have expressed their willingness to join this initiative Murcia being one of the first European capitals, and the first of Spain with Madrid, in expressing interest in the Covenant of Mayors, which it joined in 2008.
- GLOBAL Networks with EE (Energy Efficiency) U.S. of America.
- Part of the Red Green Digital Charter: This is a statement that commits the signatories to work together to achieve the climate goals of the European Union through the use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT).
- Belongs to the European Network CIVITAS CiViNET: Includes nearly 200 cities committed to the implementation and integration of sustainable urban mobility measures.
The city of Murcia chairs since last October the network Spain and Portugal, CiViNET, for the period between 2012 and 2014.
- Latin American Network of Cities Combat Climate Change (Covenant of Mexico): The Mexico City Pact was adopted at the World Mayors Summit on Climate (WMSC) held in Mexico City in 2011, and was then signed by 138 government officials local world, counting, to date, with 269 supporters from over 50 different countries.
