"The French withdrawal from Andalusia. Violence, looting and theft l'Espagne Armée du Midi on the roads of Andalusia and Murcia in 1812" by Francisco Javier Salmeron Giménez, co-published by the Center for Historical Studies "Pasqual Salmerón Fray" and Editum, delves into one of the thorniest issues yet least studied the troubled period of the War of Independence: violence and looting art was subject to Spain under French occupation, which ended in the destruction and looting of numerous works of art.
Between September and October 1812, the retreating troops of Soult, razed much of the kingdom of Murcia.
Historian Juan Gonzalez Brown stands in the prologue the excellent work of Giménez Salmeron, "made to synthesize the French withdrawal from Andalusia, designed by the skillful strategist who was Marshal Soult to carry troops and unbeatable companions from Cadiz to light Valencia with the lowest possible losses. "
