The origin of Murcia (29/10/2012)

The Visitor Center San Cayetano, in Monteagudo, will reveal the different civilizations that chose to settle Murcia.

The Councillor for Sports, Youth and Tourism, Miguel Cascales, explained that this new space tourism and culture will be open from the first quarter of 2013.

The works are fully completed, leaving only its furnishing and musealization.

In San Cayetano visitors can learn Argárica civilization (Middle Bronze Age, 1700-1200 BC), which found a funerary and three cottages, one of which could be seen at the Visitor Center.

It's also present the Iberian culture (S. IV-I BC) with the remains found and the remains of a Roman road and principles of SI

King Ibn Mardanish, better known as The Wolf King, chose this area to settle, ruling from 1147-1172, and building a strategic defense line formed by the military and Monteagudo Castle, the Castle Castillejo and Larache.

In the vicinity of these bastions built pools for irrigation, are the most important archaeological sites of medieval Islam Murcia, also known in San Cayetano.

Cascales stressed that the oldest remains of Murcia town are in Monteagudo.

The Wolf King City

Monteagudo Municipal Board has organized tours to see the historic monuments of Monteagudo.

The tour will travel more than 3 Km and know the castles and fortresses and irrigation systems, swimming pools, etc., that were built in the time of King Wolf.

The tours begin next week and will be offered to schools, IES and collective municipality in general.

The groups will be 50 people.

Dissolution of the consortium Murcia, Crossroads

Also, this morning welcomed the consortium meeting Murcia, Crossroads and has adopted the dissolution of this organization, which will take effect on January 1, 2013.

The Consortium was established in 2004, formed by the city of Murcia, the region and other entities, and has undertaken major projects such as the reconstruction of the chapel of San Antonio el Pobre, visitor center dedicated to the life of hermits in the valley, the Visitor Center of the Arab wall of Santa Eulalia, rehabilitation and conditioning Ãbero Temple of Light, the restoration of the Fountain of the Virgin in the sanctuary and the Fuensanta, and construction of the Center Visitors to San Cayetano in Monteagudo.
