Doctors and nurses Sangonera prison have decided shut indefinitely, starting today, Monday, October 22, at 17 hours, in protest against the discrimination they are suffering with the rest of prisons, following the Health Scheme unilateral modification of face, from providing health care to cover 24 hours only in the mornings and evenings, with the rest of the time in solitary location.
Among the austerity measures and cuts made by the Secretary General of Prisons, we are faced with a decision that affects only three prisons starting next month, because the rest will keep the 24-hour care, ignoring the criteria for choosing Sangonera prison, being an arbitrary and unfair decision, which hurts workers and does not guarantee the proper attention it needs the prison population.
This measure will adversely impact the health care they receive in the prison population, and in the operation of the center, as there is a large number of controlled medications for the mentally ill that we must not be able to dispense, and 30% of emergencies attended, which correspond to an average weekend, whose attention will be much more complicated.
