IU-Greens criticizes the city of Murcia in implementing adjustments to municipal employees (13/09/2012)

IU-Greens today expressed their support for public employees of the City of Murcia to the "lack of willingness to negotiate" the municipal government team in implementing adjustments promoted by regional and central administrations.

The IU-Greens councilors in Murcia, Esther and Jose Ignacio Herguedas Tornel, have indicated that the municipality applied in a "prejudicial" cutting measures affecting public workers and has failed in its obligation to report the same to the union branches as required by law

In this sense, Tornel cited as an example that some municipalities in the region, including Cartagena, have established the increase in working hours of public employees with effect from September 15, while that of Murcia has done with effect from 1 July.

He explained that with the abolition of the Christmas bonus, which will save the city coffers for 2.5 million euros, "the City has taken to include others that affect the quality of life and the possibilities of reconciling work and family life. "

"This means significant increases in time, reduced days off and the obligation to be available at all times, even on their days off, in the case of some municipal services such as fire fighters," she added Tornel.

It also noted that there are alternatives to raise more revenue and a review of certain administrative concessions, among which highlighted the Terra Natura, and subsidies to private entities, such as the basketball club UCAM or service recovery outsourced, such as tax collection.

"Cutting public employees wages and worsen working conditions is cutting public services such as security, culture, sports and education," he concluded.
