The Murcia last year produced about 201 tonnes of waste, of which almost 9% were selective.
In 2005 this percentage was 5.8%.
Jose Ros explains the positive development of recycling awareness and cooperation of citizens and the large number of collection points scattered neighborhoods and villages.
Murcia has doubled the amount of waste that gets in the collection since 2002, first full year in which the service was introduced throughout the county (it launched in late 2001).
Thus, while in 2002 9,036,000 kilos were collected glass, paper and packaging, in 2011 reached 17,048,000 kilos, representing a growth of almost 89%.
The glass is by far, the residue whose reuse has increased over this period in Murcia, from 7 kilos per capita per year to 15.8, ie, an increase of over 125.5%.
The evolution of the packaging has also been significant: from 5.2 K / person / year to 9.8 in 2011 (increase of 87.7%).
Finally, Murcia deposited in the first year of collection 11.6 k / hb / year of paper and cardboard and 12.9 last year (increase of 11.4%).
In absolute terms, of the 17 tons of recyclable waste collected last year, most corresponded to 6982 kilos-glass, which was collected a larger amount of paper that is recovered than 5,717 kilos-and-packaging of which in 2011 were recycled 4,349 kilos.
The waste management conducted by the City Council is allowing progressively increase the percentage of waste to total selective.
Thus, if in 2005 this index was 5.8%, last year was recycled more than 9.2% of the nearly 201 tons collected in total.
Recipe: awareness, collaboration and containers
The City Council has made a clear commitment to provide the Murcia to work with the collection because "recycling, to be effective and efficient, it must necessarily begin in each household," said Jose Ros, head of the Department of Urban Cleaning and Waste Management.
"Separate for recycling is an essential step to increase the recovery of waste and, thus, reduce and production," he added.
In his opinion, it is essential that demonstrate awareness Murcia to protecting the environment, but has insisted that "we must be vigilant to continue improving."
One of the elements necessary to facilitate the smooth operation of the service is to provide citizens with the necessary means to facilitate collaboration.
To do this, since it was launched the collection has remained a steady increase in the number of containers distributed through the neighborhoods and districts.
Thus, at present there are 1,135 containers of paper compared to 745 in 2005 - 1,141 of containers in 2005 -741 - and-glass 1.1281 against 850 in 2005 -.
