IU-Green today announced that it will oppose "so sharp" to the elimination of municipal boards announced by the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration.
This proposal was part of the Council of Ministers last Friday, which was discussed a report on the draft bill called Streamlining and Sustainability of Local Government, inter alia, provides for the removal of less than 3,725 municipal entities , among which include municipal boards, councils and parishes open, among others.
IU-Green precisely the Region of Murcia, once it became aware of the existence of this draft that was sent to the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), convened on Friday a news conference with his presence of 30 councilors to reject the measures contained in this bill, among which are the loss of municipal powers are transferred to regional governments, privatization of services and reducing the number of councilors.
However, the extent of amending Article 45 of the Basic Law on Local Government that local governing entities under was not included in the draft sent to the FEMP, so from IU-Green is considered that, by the Government there is a clear intention to hide data to make decisions outside of municipalities.
"This is a cowardly and treacherous and anti-democratic because under the guise of saving money does not exist, aims to cut drastically the instruments of citizen participation," said the mayor of IU-Green in the city of Murcia, Esther Herguedas .
According to the councilor, the government is seriously in breach of local autonomy and the powers of other regional administrations as it is who is responsible for regulating this aspect.
Herguedas has called the silence of the mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel House, as "complicit in this betrayal municipal" and recalls that before a member of the PP is primarily due to defend mayor and municipal interests.
"The mayor of Murcia is a member of the Board of Governors of the FEPM and president of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia Do not have anything to say about changing this law?" He asked.
Finally, the representative of IU-Green has pointed out that present motions to reject this proposal both on the floor of this month and in all municipal councils where they have representation, and do not rule out other measures to express their protest.
