"Criminal justice in Spain" is the title of a course at the International University of Mar-Campus Mare Nostrum to be held in the town of Aguilas during the week of 23 to 26 July.
The course attempts to analyze in depth the current state of criminal justice in Spain, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, and making proposals involving an improvement in the administration of justice in this area.
To this end intervene several members of the academic as well as lawyers, judges, politicians, journalists and members of the Forces of State Security.
The inaugural conference will be borne by Fernando Grande-Marlaska, President of the Criminal Division of the High Court, and will focus on "Justification of the High Court and its powers in criminal matters."
Among the participants is the criminal lawyer Marcos Garcia Montes, who took over some of the more media trials of the past four decades in Spain, who will speak on "Criminal Consequences of corruption in Spain."
Planned activities include likewise a panel discussion on the statement in criminal proceedings, with the participation of professionals of various kinds, and a forum for discussion on the assessment of the jury in Spain.
The course closes with separate papers on the reform of the criminal process and the independence of the criminal courts against political and social pressures.
Parallel to the afternoon sessions, the course will offer in the morning several workshops from various viewing DVD recorded especially criminal trials for the School of Legal Practice of Murcia, with guidance and feedback from course leaders themselves, Fernando Sigüenza Jimenez Lopez and Julio Conde, Professor and Professor of Procedural Law, respectively.
