President of the Autonomous Region, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, accompanied by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, and the Director General of Sports, Antonio Penalver, received today at the Palacio de San Esteban, in Murcia, athletes Murcia shortlisted for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, held in London between 29 August and 9 September.
Murcia athletes shortlisted to attend the London Paralympic event are: Miguel Angel Clemente (cyclist), Jose Antonio Exposito (athlete), Pedro Antonio Garcia (indoor soccer), Lorenzo Albaladejo (athlete) and Diego Jose Jara (cyclist).
The president of the Community stressed the importance of the work that these athletes, because their purpose is twofold, to achieve the greatest sporting success and communication to society, through the successes of athletes, the values ​​of effort, tenacity and teamwork.
The Spanish delegation will have 125 athletes (blind or visually impaired, physically disabled, intellectually disabled or cerebral palsy) and will participate in 15 of the 20 disciplines Summer Paralympic program.
Spain is one of the major world powers in Paralympic sport, to be among the top ten countries in the overall medal in the last five Paralympic Games.
