115 university students participated as volunteers in the school building program has treated 200 children (30/05/2012)

The Aldermen of Social Welfare and Health, María del Carmen Pelegrin, and Education, Maria Dolores Sanchez, this afternoon delivered the diplomas to the 115 university students who have participated in the project to strengthen family school, which was held during the year 2011 / 2012.

This program, which has been under way during 1999/2000, with the assistance of the Office of Volunteers at the University of Murcia, is that young volunteers to help with their homework to children with learning problems are behind on their studies, etc.

During this course has treated 192 children and 86 -106 children-girls from 15 districts and 27 districts of Murcia, and attending 74 different schools.

The 115 volunteers -107 women and 8 men, have covered 6,325 hours of tutoring.

This activity is free.

Of all children who have participated in this program, 49 of them are foreigners, mainly from Morocco and Ecuador.

Children who usually participate in this program belong to socially disadvantaged school reinforcement becoming an essential tool in the process of integration.

Children improve their school performance improved in the way of coping and to function in everyday life.

They also acquire study habits and volunteers help families to give more importance to education of their children.

During the course 2011/2012 has increased the number of volunteers, 107 in 2010/2011 to 115, and the number of children served from 168 to 192 last year, and the number of hours of training they have children received, from 4,359 in the past year to 6,325 in this edition.
