The municipal group of IU-Green in the city of Murcia has filed a motion in Parliament next Thursday requesting the implementation of the Property Tax (IBI) to the properties of the Catholic Church.
The initiative criticizes the Catholic Church, which he defines as "probably the largest property owner in the country, even more than some of the companies in the construction sector" is exempted from this payment.
"While the increase of this tax is detrimental to all citizens, the largest owner of real property will not affect you because you have this privilege," he adds UI-Green.
He also notes that the payment of this tax could raise $ 3,000 million euros, "which could be spent on job creation, health, social policy and education."
The formation of the left also requested in his motion the development of a census of the Catholic Church buildings that do not engage in the Agreement Spanish with the Holy See on economic issues, to pay the IBI.
This proposal is part of the actions being undertaken UI to end the privileges of the Catholic Church and revoke the Concordat with the Holy See, to "favor a secular democratic state."
Criticism of the PSOE
The IU-Green spokesman in the city of Murcia, Esther Herguedas, has accused the PSOE now present motions in consistories for the church pay property tax on buildings not used for worship, as they "have had 8 long years to put going. "
In addition, Herguedas recalled that the PSOE voted against several initiatives presented by IU in the House of Representatives to end the tax benefits of the Church.
