The spokesman for Progress and Democracy Union in the city of Murcia, Ruben Serna, believes that the current municipal system of bike rentals by the hour "is closer to being an efficient and effective," as it exists in other cities and national Europe, for "encouraging a higher turnover and use of bikes for different people in one day."
Serna last year found the difficulty of finding available a bicycle, which according to the mayor was due to the existence of rents "long duration", and the small number of vehicles.
"It was customary that people rented bicycles on a monthly or yearly, and even renew the lease, so that for the rest of the neighbors was very difficult to use this service."
So now there Serna welcomes the form of free rent for up to four hours, but considers that aspects could be improved with the installation of automatic points throughout the city for the collection and deposit.
For Serna these points should be located next to the tram or bus, so that would promote the combined use of both modes of transport.
"We need to increase the network of bike lanes, the work of awareness, and above all, security in order to turn the bike in half effective and safe transportation," said Serna.
With initiatives such as the proposals from Murcia UPyD as "semipeatonalización" of the Gran Via including a bike lane or bike rentals by the hour, "the City is moving in this direction," although, as Serna said at the time, the capital the Spanish Network of Cities for Cycling "a scholarship, an act of faith" because everything is done.
