The NGOs of the Local Police of the City of Murcia, Blue in Action, is continuing its work in Togo to improve the ocular health of the population of Kara.
Twenty donors have participated in the last expedition, held between 8 and 24 March in which they have conducted 177 cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, 21 pterygium surgeries, 448 graducaciones and provision of glasses, 45 treatment of trachoma, corneal lesions 56, 71 ametropia, 404 cataract detected but not operated, 19 onchocerciasis, 432 conjunctivitis treated, 88 treated glaucoma, 196 different eye diseases, 83 pterygium surgery not detected.
A total of 2,286 consultations have been addressed.
The group of professionals who volunteer has moved consisted of 6 ophthalmologists (surgeons), 2 anesthesiologists, an optician, 7 nursing technicians, 6 specialists in logistics and organization and a journalist, from Murcia, Asturias, Santander, Galicia and Mexico.
Councilmember Equality Policy and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, has congratulated this NGO which has led to the population of Togo a service that could not otherwise have.
In addition, he recalled that the City has assisted in the implementation of autotransportable hospital located in the country and all actions taken by this NGO.
The medical management of this campaign has been in charge of Murcia ophthalmologist Espin Fermín Morales, and consultations and interventions have been organized around the hospital operating room autotransportable 'Ciudad de Murcia'.
This is a truck converted into a hospital that the local NGOs led to Togo last year and is currently located in the city of Kara.
Besides the hospital, have mounted two ophthalmology and optics, and have made four visits to bring mobile health to those living in highly remote.
Professionals working in 7 to 21 days hours of continuous operation to serve as many people as possible.
In Togo, with 6 million inhabitants, only 9 ophthalmologists, and 7 of them are in the capital, Lome.
The African population of this area suffers from many problems of vision due to the aridity of the land.
